November 11, 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of the passing of Queen Liliuokalani.
 

 

The tribute to Queen Liliuokalani took place in front of the statue of the beloved monarch near Iolani Palace.

Born on September 2, 1838, the Princess Lydia Kamaka`eha was the younger sister of King David Kalakaua, she ascended to the throne on January 29, 1891 as Queen Liliuokalani.

 

Her reign ended after the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and later died at the age of 79 on November 11, 1917 while in exile.

 

Exactly 100 years later, at 8:30 a.m., the sounds of church bells rang 100 times to mark the 100 anniversary and the beginning of the ceremonies.

HRH Princess Owana Salazar, Head of the Royal House of Hawaii, was in attendance to grace everyone with her beautiful voice in the singing of Ku'u Pua I Paoakalani and in her delivery of Ho'okupu in memory of Queen Lili`uokalani at the celebrations.
