Born on November 1, 1838, Princess Victoria's mother was Princess Kinau, a sister of King Kamehameha II & III, her father was Mataio Kekuanaoa. She was officially named eligible for the throne by Kamehameha III and was entered in the Chiefs Children's School. She became Kuhina Nui in 1855 and under the Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom it provided that the Kuhina Nui may assume the power of the monarch should the ruler be absent from their duties. She in fact did assume power for a day when her brother Kamehameha IV died in 1864. Princess Victoria died childless in 1866.
